The first Saturday of 2012 saw approaching 200 elderly Shirley residents attend their annual New Year party at the Shirley Community Centre organised by the Shirley Lions Club. After enjoying a fish and chips lunch guests were entertained by Jay-Gee Entertainments who soon had everyone singing along to a host of well known songs, both old and new. During the interval guests completed a couple of games of prize bingo and the Shirley Lions had the room rocking with laughter as they performed their own Brummie version of the pantomime Snow White, condensed to five minutes. Following more sing-a-long the afternoon concluded with the draw of the grand prize raffle. Lion President Anne Carter reported that all the guests had enjoyed a thoroughly entertaining afternoon and thanked the sponsors “Sunrise Senior Living” for all their support.
